Labour Market Information Portal

The Labour Market Information Portal (LMIP) provides up to date labour market information to help people to better understand their local area.

This week's updates:

    • September 2009 Labour Force data now available. This includes industry and occupation data, unemployment rates and population data.
    • October 2009 Labour Force data will be available in late November 2009.
    • September 2009 Centrelink and Job Services Australia data now available.

What information is available on the Labour Market Information Portal?

Information on the site has been divided into four distinct sections:

These boundaries were defined for the 2009-2012 Employment Services contract.

Information available for these boundaries includes the number of people in receipt of Centrelink benefits, and the number engaged with Job Services Australia. These data are available at the national, Labour Market Region and ESA level. Each level of geography also contains an area profile, which includes the current unemployment rate for the region and job seeker data, such as average job seeker age and unemployment duration.
December 2009 Centrelink and Job Services Australia data will be available in late January 2010.

For more information on these Employment Service Areas, see the following links;

Employment Services Providers were contracted to these boundaries until 30 June 2009. These boundaries will be in effect for delivery of Disability Employment Network (DEN) and Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) until March 2010.

  • LABOUR FORCE REGION (LFR) DATA

This area of the site provides labour market information on the basis of boundaries used by the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Data include unemployment rates and employment by industry and occupation. These data are available by gender and full-time/part-time status. Population profiles by age group and labour force status are also available. Each LFR also contains an area profile, which includes the current unemployment, employment rate and participation rate for the region. Data are available at the national, state and LFR level.
October 2009 Labour Force data will be available in late November 2009.

  • SMALL AREA LABOUR MARKETS (SALM) DATA

This area of the site provides data from the Small Area Labour Markets (SALM) publication which is published quarterly. Data items include unemployment rates and labour force figures, which are available at the Statistical Local Area (SLA) level, Australia wide. All data are provided with a map for convenience.
Due to the transition from the 2001 Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) to the 2006 ASGC, there has been significant delay with the release of the March quarter 2009 Small Area Labour Markets data. It is anticipated that the data will be released around the end of October 2009.

  • DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT SERVICES DATA

These data provide historical and other administrative information relating to the reform of Disability Employment Services.

DEN and VRS historical intake and caseload data as at 30 June 2009.

DEN and VRS historical and caseload data June 2009 with VRS age group (XLS 709)

This spreadsheet provides quarterly referral and commencement data from July 2007 to June 2009, along with active caseload figures against a range of job seeker characteristics for both VRS and DEN. The data may be useful to organisations who are considering tendering to deliver the new Disability Employment Services from March 2010. The majority of figures provided are broken down against the new ESA boundaries to be adopted for Disability Employment Services from March 2010.  For the purposes of comparison, some key figures are also provided broken down against the existing ESA structure.
