Labour Market Information Portal

The Labour Market Information Portal (LMIP) provides up to date labour market information to help people to better understand their local area.

Are you a regular user of the Labour Market Information Portal website? If so, we would appreciate your feedback and any suggestions you have regarding the data published on the website and any other data you would like to see made available. Please forward your views to lmip@deewr.gov.au.

Information on the site has been divided into three distinct sections:

This area of the site provides information on Centrelink recipients and those who are engaged with Job Network. These data are available by allowance type and age groups. Each ESA also contains an area profile, which includes the current employment rate for the region and job seeker data. Data are available at the national, Labour Market Region and ESA level.

This area of the site includes the proposed Employment Service Area and Labour Market Region boundaries for the Employment Services 2009-12 contract and replicates the information that is available through the current ESA data channel.

Programme Referrals for 2007/2008 by JSCI Band

Caseload and Referral data (XLS 47KB)

Referrals data definition

The data in the Referrals tab of this spreadsheet are a count of all referrals made for JNS, PSP and JPET over the 2007/08 financial year. This is a total transactional count of all referrals made in EA3000 over the financial year and includes:

  • Referrals from all sources, including Centrelink and for direct registrations made by Job Network providers;
  • All initial referrals, and re-referrals where a job seeker returns to the same provider within 12 months;
  • All Transfer referrals; and
  • Referrals for both Fully Job Network Eligible (FJNE) and Job Search Support Only (JSSO) job seekers.

JSCI Bandwidths Used for Referral data

The data provided are based on the application of the current JSCI as at the time of job seeker referral. It does not take into consideration JCA results and that a job seeker’s JSCI can be updated after referral. Note that the historical Referral data by JSCI bandwidth are not a projection of service Stream flows and that the JSCI, a major determinant of service Stream eligibility, is currently under review. Any changes to the JSCI will be introduced in time for the commencement of the new Employment Services on 1 July 2009. Further information on the JSCI can be found at www.workplace.gov.au/jsci.

Current Caseload Data

Detailed Transition Caseload data - 19/09/2008 (XLS 63.0KB)

Detailed Transition Caseload data - 24/11/2008 (XLS 56.0KB)

Detailed Transition Caseload data - 07/01/2009 (XLS 43.0KB)

The data are a count of all fully eligible active job seekers in Job Network, JPET, PSP or the PSP waitlist, as at the extract date, and are available at the above link. The caseload has been mapped indicatively to the Streams or Work Experience phase as per the transition rules included in the RFT (refer Table 2.7 page 55). Note that some transition rules have yet to be finalised and that overall caseload numbers will change in the lead up to the transition to the new contract due to changing labour market conditions and seasonal variations. The Department does not guarantee that the numbers in these categories will be transitioned to the new market on 1 July 2009. The dataset will be updated on a monthly basis in the lead up to the transition, starting in mid November after the tender closure.

Please note:
        Data at the Employment Service Area (ESA) and Labour Market Region (LMR) levels are derived by summing administrative data at the postcode level of aggregation. For the few postcodes that do not fall entirely within a single ESA, a population-weighted concordance method is used to distribute the postcode data between the overlapping ESAs. For these ESAs and their parent LMRs, the concordance method may lead to small errors. Accordingly, these numbers may not accurately reflect contract referrals.
  • LABOUR FORCE REGION (LFR) DATA

    This area of the site provides information on the labour market, including employment by industry and occupation. These data are available by gender and full-time/part-time status. Population profiles by age group and labour force status are also available. Each LFR also contains an area profile, which includes the current unemployment rate, employment rate and participation rate for the region. Data are available at the national, state and LFR level.

  • SMALL AREA LABOUR MARKETS (SALM) DATA

    This area of the site provides data from the Small Area Labour Markets (SALM) publication which is published quarterly. Data items include unemployment rates and labour force figures, which are available at the Statistical Local Area (SLA) level, Australia wide. All data are provided with a map for convenience.

  • DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT SERVICES DATA

    These data provide historical and other administrative information relating to the reform of Disability Employment Services.

                      DEN and VRS historical intake and caseload data as at 31 December 2008.

                             DEN and VRS historical and caseload data (XLS 709)

This spreadsheet provides quarterly referral and commencement data from July 2007 to December 2008, along with active caseload figures against a range of job seeker characteristics for both VRS and DEN. The data may be useful to organisations who are considering tendering to deliver the new Disability Employment Services from March 2010. The majority of figures provided are broken down against the new ESA boundaries to be adopted for Disability Employment Services from March 2010.  For the purposes of comparison, some key figures are also provided broken down against the existing ESA structure.
