About the seminars

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations will be running a national seminar series to explain the independent contractors laws.

Topics covered in the seminar include:

  • Who do the new laws apply to?
  • Who is an independent contractor and who is an employee? 
  • What is excluded?
  • Transitional period
  • Unfair contracts
  • Sham arrangements.

Bookings are essential. Seminars are free of charge.

Go to the Workchoices website to find and book a seminar. Please check the website on a regular basis as additional seminar dates will be added on an ongoing basis.

How do I book a seminar?

Please note: In order to make a booking online, you must have an email address. Any password details, confirmation of bookings or changes to the seminar time, date or location will be sent to your nominated email address.

If you do not have an email address and you want one, there are a number of internet sites which provide free email addresses.

  1. Alternatively, if you do not have an email address you are able to call 1300 667 850 to make a booking.
    Go to seminar bookings.
  2. Locate the time, date and location of the seminar you wish to attend.
    • Use the drop down menus on the left hand side of the page to search by state, location and/or month.
  3. Select the seminar you wish to attend by 'clicking' on the seminar date.
  4. Proceed with booking
    • Single booking - book for yourself. You can also choose to register with the site at this point (this is suggested if you are likely to attend more that one event). It is recommended that you include your phone number on the booking form.
    • Multiple booking - book for up to 10 people to attend the seminar (depending on the number of seats available).

Once you have completed the booking form and accepted the terms and conditions of the booking, you will be booked onto the seminar. An email confirming this booking will be sent to your nominated email address.

How long do the seminars go for?

Seminars will run for approximately one hour. Please arrive 15 minutes beforehand for registration.

What do I do if the seminar I want to attend is fully booked?

If there is a seminar that you are interested in attending, but it is fully booked, please contact seminars@deewr.gov.au or call 1300 667 850 to register your interest.

You will need to provide your name and contact details along with the date, time and location of the seminar you would like to attend.

How do I cancel a seminar booking?

If you wish to cancel a seminar booking please email seminars@deewr.gov.au or call 1300 667 850.

You will need to provide your name and contact details along with the date, time and location of the seminar you were booked on.

You will be notified when this cancellation has been completed.

How do I provide feedback on the seminar series?

If you have feedback regarding the independent contractors seminars, please contact 1300 667 850 (8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday) or email seminars@deewr.gov.au.

What do I do if I can't access the booking system?

If you are experiencing problems booking please call 1300 667 850 with details of the technical difficulty.
