A pathway to the childcare Industry

Lori Hooper of Ipswich has always wanted to work in the child care industry but because she was shy and didn’t have much confidence, felt she wasn’t good enough to get a job.

With help from her IYEC Lori got her year 12 certificate at the Bundamba State High School and started work at the Kids Campus Centre on a 2-months traineeship in childcare.

Lori enjoys working in child care and said she gets excited about going to her new job each day.

“It’s like I’m not working and I’m having heaps of fun. I love working with children so much,” she said.

Thanks to the IYEC programme, Lori has got back her confidence and wants to become a child care director one day.

“Without all the help I got from Regina Bonner, my Indigenous Youth Employment Consultant, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” she said.

The Ipswich Mission Australia IYEC programme helped Lori get her job in child care. Bernadette Hoffin Mission’s Regional Director said,

“It’s been a pleasure to have Lori work for our child care centre and I’m looking forward to a long partnership between Mission Australia and the IYEC programme.”
