Indigenous entrepreneur success story - Jan
Jan has long been involved in the local art industry while working for many years in cafés and restaurants. She would love to find a way to combine these two passions.
She’s currently unemployed and dreams of one day opening her own Indigenous gallery café in town, but she has no idea who to approach or how she would go about getting the money together to do this.
Then a friend told Jan that she should see her local Job Network member to find out how they could help. They told her about the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) which helps eligible unemployed people to start and run their new, viable small business.
Jan is now doing a three month small business management course and has access to a year of business advice and mentor support from a NEIS provider during the first year of business operation.
She can also get a NEIS allowance for up to a year to support her while she starts out.
She’s well on her way to establishing a successful small business!
If you’ve got a great business idea, find out how to get it off the ground by visiting your local Job Network member or Centrelink office or call 1802 102. You can find a NEIS provider in your area by visiting JobSearch.
