Jobs for Parents Month 2007

Providers of Australian Government Employment Services (PAGES) held Jobs for Parents month events in August to encourage and assist parents in finding a job.

The events were based on bringing parents re-entering the workforce together with employers in their local area.

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations provided funding to PAGES around Australia to help them to promote the extensive skills that parents have and can bring to the workplace.

To mark the launch of Jobs for Parents month, the Hon Dr Sharman Stone MP was the guest of honour at a breakfast organised by Workways in Echuca, Victoria.

Since July 2006, parents who have applied for income support with a youngest child aged six and over have been required to look for part time work. This requirement has now been introduced for parents who were in receipt of income support before 1 July 2006 and who have a youngest child aged seven and over.
