ESO products
Substantial changes to the taxation laws governing employee share schemes have been announced in the 2008-09 Budget. These changes are not reflected in the information provided on this site or in the 'Getting Started' kits. You should therefore seek information and advice from a suitably qualified tax professional.
In 2004, the Australian government set a target to increase the proportion of employees with shares in their company to 11 per cent by 2009. In support of this target the following products are available.
'Getting started' kits
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has produced a ‘Getting started’ kit containing guidance material and standard documents for setting up an ESOP. By using the kit, employers will have a step-by-step guide to begin the process of implementing an ESOP, and will be able to customise their ESOP to suit their situation and business needs. The kit provides instructions and standard documents for setting up two different kinds of ESOPs: a tax exempt plan and a tax deferred plan.
Brochures
A brochure containing generic information on benefits of ESO and where to go for further information.
Information guides

Fact sheet
Employee share ownership target – a single page fact sheet containing information on the government’s target to double the proportion of employees with employee shares by 2009.
CD ROM
An interactive guide to ESO providing statistics, video case studies and interviews with specialists, and links to more information.
