Getting started kit updates

Substantial changes to the taxation laws governing employee share schemes have been announced in the 2008-09 Budget.  These changes are not reflected in the information provided on this site or in the 'Getting Started'  kits.  You should therefore seek information and advice from a suitably qualified tax professional.

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations would like to advise of the following updates to the content of the kit.

  • CD ROM:

The CD ROM within the kit has a small bug relating to the 'State' fields. Currently, Victoria does not appear as an option in the 'State' drop down boxes. To rectify this problem, simply download the patch below and this will update the original CD ROM application that you have installed. To download the patch simply follow these instructions.

    • Click on link - CD ROM patch
    • Select 'open'
    • Follow the Employee Share Ownership 1.1 setup wizard
  • Overview booklet:

The following typographical error appears in the Decision tree fold-out of the Overview booklet:

The second dot point within the blue box titled 'Qualifying shares?' currently reads:

    •   '>5% holding per employee'

The inequality symbol should be reversed so that the sentence reads:

    • '<5% holding per employee'

Please note that the expanded information relevant to this point (see section 2.1.1b in chapter 2 of the Overview booklet) is correct and gives accurate detail in relation to this issue.
