Wage Assist

Wage Assist is a wage subsidy programme available to employers who provide on-going, full-time (or employment that is sufficient to take the job seeker off benefits) work opportunities for Very Long Term Unemployed (VLTU) job seekers.

Employers may be eligible for a total payment of $4,600 if a job seeker stays in full-time employment for 26 weeks of continuous employment.  It is paid to employers in 2 instalments. When a job seeker completes 13 weeks in a Wage Assist job, the employer may be eligible for an initial payment of $2,300.  A further payment of $2,300 may be paid to an employer when the job seeker continues to be employed at the 26 week point.
