2007 ACCI BCA Work and Family Awards
2007 winners announced
The winners of the 2007 National Work and Family Awards were announced on 18 July 2007. The Awards were presented by the Hon Joe Hockey MP, then Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.
The winners of the 2007 Awards are:
- Gold Award - Private Sector - St. George Bank
- Gold Award - Public or Community Sector - The Cancer Council Queensland
- Large Business Award - St. George Bank
- Medium Business Award - Overnewton Anglican Community College
- Small Business Award - Benbro Electronics
- Community Sector Award - The Cancer Council Queensland
- Public Sector Award - The Bremer Institute of Tafe
- Regional and Rural Award - Campbell Page
- Rising Star Award - Probuild Constructions and Business & Employment.
High Commendations were awarded to:
- Large Business Award - PricewaterhouseCoopers
- Small Business Award - TakeABreak
- Public Sector Award - Sydney Water and Building Commission Victoria
- Regional and Rural Award - Red Cliffs and Community Aged Care Services.
In addition the judges awarded two commendations to organisations who responded to the needs of employees with caring responsibilities:
- Carer Support Commendation - Benbro Electronics
- Carer Support Commendation - Nine2Three Employment Solutions.

About the Awards
The ACCI/BCA National Work & Family Awards recognise excellence in work and family initiatives. They showcase organisations with outstanding flexible working arrangements that meet the needs of the business and its employees.
The Awards focus on outcomes rather than just policies. They acknowledge businesses that:
- Recognise the business benefits in responding to the actual work-life needs of their employees
- make efforts to ensure that managers, supervisors and employees accommodate work-life needs as appropriate
- demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in the development and implementation of work-life policies, practices and initiatives.
The Awards aim to:
- Demonstrate and promote the business benefits of flexible working arrangements
- recognise organisations that accommodate employees’ work-life needs
- provide an opportunity for companies to review and benchmark their working arrangements
- provide case studies, model policies and initiatives that serve as useful tools for other employers.
Award Categories
- Gold Award – Private Sector
To recognise overall outstanding achievement in the private sector in providing for the work-life needs of employees
- Gold Award – Public or Community Sector
To recognise overall outstanding achievement in the public sector in providing for the work-life needs of employees
- Large Business Award
For the most outstanding private sector applicant with more than 500 employees
- Medium Business Award
For the most outstanding private sector applicant with 50-500 employees
- Small Business Award
For the most outstanding private sector applicant with less than 50 employees
- Rising Star Award
To recognise the most improved work and family private or community sector organisation
- Regional and Rural Award
For the most outstanding private or community sector applicant in a regional or rural community
- Community Sector Award
For the most outstanding community sector applicant
Eligibility
Application for the Awards is by self-nomination. Applications from private, public and community sector organisations in metropolitan and regional centres are welcome.
Selection Criteria
Applicants are judged on their ability to:
- Identify and meet employee needs with work-life initiatives
- effectively communicate to staff work-life initiatives
- integrate work-life policies with the overall approach to business
- demonstrate positive outcomes for business and employees from work-life initiatives
- demonstrate a level of commitment to work-life balance now and into the future.
Judging
A panel of judges assess the applications and supporting documentation to arrive at a shortlist. The members of the judging panel then visit the shortlisted entrants at their place of business and talk to senior management, the people responsible for developing and implementing work-life policies, and employees. The judges then hold a final meeting to determine the winners.
