Flexibility Works

On the 19 May 2006, the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Kevin Andrews, launched the new Flexibility Works – Assisting Workplace Flexibility in Retail website at the 2006 National Retail Association’s Business Congress in Sydney.

The new Flexibility Works website, developed as part of the Australian Government’s Welfare to Work reforms, is a key resource for retailers to assist with the development of strategies to implement and manage flexible working arrangements.

The Flexibility Works website aims to increase awareness amongst retailers about the benefits of flexible workplaces and also provides a useful resource to help manage the day to day aspects of managing staff working flexibly. The website includes information on:

  • the benefits of flexible working for the retail sector;
  • case studies highlighting retailers who have successfully implemented innovative flexible work practices;
  • responses to frequently asked questions by retailers around starting up, implementing flexibility and ongoing management;
  • a guide for negotiating with employees over flexible arrangements;
  • setting up a company policy for flexible working and managing any internal challenges; and
  • evaluating flexible arrangements.

Retailer business owners, managers and HR practitioners can log onto the new site at www.flexibilityworks.deewr.gov.au for helpful information and guidelines to improve flexibility at the workplace level.
