DEEWR Leading Indicator of Employment

The new technical Monthly Leading Indicator of Employment anticipates movements in the growth cycle of employment. It does this through the use of a composite index of four weighted series (ANZ Newspaper Advertisements, Dun and Bradstreet Employment Expectations, the Westpac Melbourne Institute Leading Index of Economic Activity and the Consumer Sentiment Index) that have been shown to lead employment over the last 30 years.

Skill Shortages

Occupational Skills in Demand research is undertaken by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) using the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) to define occupations. The research focuses on professions, associate professions and trades, although a number of occupations in the management group are also included in the program.

Vacancy reports

The DEWR Vacancy Report is a monthly online report containing: the Skilled Vacancies Index; the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Vacancy Index; and Australian JobSearch vacancies by occupation. The Skilled Vacancies Index is based on a count of advertisements in major metropolitan newspapers for selected occupations and is seasonally adjusted and trended each month. The ICT Vacancy Index is based on a count of advertisements from three online recruitment sites.

Australian Jobs

Australian Jobs 2007 is designed to provide Australians with up-to-date information about jobs. It provides a guide to the occupations and industries in which Australians work and highlights jobs with good prospects. It also provides information for key job seeker groups - people with disabilities; mature age; youth; Indigenous people and parents on income support, as well as information about employment services and Australian apprenticeships.

Australian Labour Market Update

Australian Labour Market Update is a quarterly publication which explains the labour market for those seeking jobs in Australia, particularly migrants.

Australian Regional Labour Markets

Includes statistics on employment, unemployment, the unemployment rate and the participation rate by ABS labour force region.

Characteristics of Disability Support Pension Recipients

Information on recipients by age, gender, geographic state, country of birth, marital status, home ownership, medical condition, earnings, rate and duration.

Job Outlook

The Job Outlook online site complements the Australian Jobs publication and provides detailed and forward-looking information for around 400 occupations.
