State and Territory Skill Shortages
DEEWR produces lists of shortages for each state and territory which can be accessed below. The State and Territory Skill Shortage Lists are based on labour market research undertaken by DEEWR, and provide information about occupations for which shortages exist or for which some employers are experiencing recruitment problems.
Some occupations are assessed for each state and territory, but DEEWR also assesses a number of occupations at the national level. Although national assessments do not provide enough information to form ratings for individual states and territories, they provide useful information to supplement the State and Territory Skill Shortage Lists. For this reason the lists published below include information about national shortages where occupations have been assessed nationally more recently.
The Department also conducts surveys of employers in individual regions and/or specific industries which identify occupations in which employers are experiencing difficulty filling vacancies. This research includes occupations at all skill levels, and the findings are available at workplace.gov.au/regionalreports
DEEWR’s skill shortages research also underpins a number of programs designed to address skill shortages. Information about these programs is available from related links.
