The independent contractor laws came into effect on 1 March 2007.
The Independent Contractors Bill 2006 and the Workplace Relations Legislation Amendment (Independent Contractors) Bill 2006 were introduced into the House of Representatives on 22 June 2006. Proposed Government amendments were introduced on 28 November 2006. The Bills passed with amendments on 4 December 2006.
