Latest (June 2008) DEEWR Leading Indicator of Employment

DEEWR’s Monthly Leading Indicator of Employment (Indicator) has fallen for five consecutive months, which is an unchanged pattern of results from that reported last month, owing to substantial data revisions to the Indicator’s component series. This monthly Indicator anticipates movements in the growth cycle of employment. It does this through the use of a composite index of four weighted series (ANZ Newspaper Job Advertisements, Dun and Bradstreet Employment Expectations, the Westpac‑Melbourne Institute Leading Index of Economic Activity and the Consumer Sentiment Index) statistically ascertained to lead employment growth over the last two decades. The results for June are available from the DEEWR Leading Indicator of Employment page.
