Workplace safety made a national priority with launch of Safe Work Australia Week 2007

Safe Work Australia Week

Free promotional products, employer resource kits and activity ideas for Safe Work Australia Week 2007 are available from the ASCC website at www.ascc.gov.au.

The Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC) has made workplace safety a national priority with the launch of Safe Work Australia Week 2007.

Safe Work Australia Week is a national week held from 21 to 27 October and aims to encourage all working Australians to get involved in, and concentrate on, safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease.

Australia currently ranks in the top five countries for reducing work-related deaths with a 36% decrease in compensated fatalities since 1996.  Australia is also making progress in reducing work-related injuries and diseases, with a 13% decrease in accepted compensation claims since 1996.

While these figures are encouraging, even one injury or fatality in the workplace is still one too many.

Incorporating safety into our everyday work practices and making it a daily consideration not only improves occupational health and safety performance, but it has a very significant effect on productivity.

By organising a safety event in your workplace for Safe Work Australia Week, employers can begin to highlight the importance of safety and the role everyone plays in making safety a priority at work.

An online ordering system for free promotional products has also been launched to assist employers to promote Safe Work Australia Week.

Workplace events don’t need to cost a lot of money or require a lot of time to plan and the ASCC has made promotional products and resource kits available online to support employers across Australia.

The ASCC has already received orders from over 500 organisations nation-wide for Safe Work Australia Week promotional products.

All employers and employees around Australia are encouraged to get involved and host activities in support of Safe Work Australia Week at their workplace, because safety is everybody’s business.
