Junior Rates Inquiry
Section 120B of the Workplace Relations Act 1996 requires a Full Bench of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) to prepare a report for the Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business on the feasibility of replacing junior rates with alternatives that do not discriminate on the basis of age.
Against this background, the AIRC conducted an inquiry into junior rates of pay in 1999. A joint governments' submission was made to the inquiry, and the AIRC has now concluded the inquiry and submitted its report to the Minister.
