Workplace Relations Ministers Council

The Workplace Relations Ministers’ Council (WRMC) is a council of federal, State and Territory Ministers responsible for workplace relations matters in their respective jurisdictions. The New Zealand Minister is invited to attend WRMC as an observer. The Council usually meets twice a year, around May and November. (The Council was formerly known as the Labour Ministers’ Council.)

The members are:

Commonwealth

New South Wales

  • The Hon John Hatzistergos MLC, Attorney General, Minister for Industrial Relations
  • The Hon Joseph Tripodi MP, Minister for Finance, Minister for Infrastructure, Minister for Regulatory Reform, Minster for Ports and Waterways

Victoria

  • The Hon Martin Pakula MP, Minister for Industry and Trade, Minister for Industrial Relations
  • The Hon Tim Holding MP, Minister for Finance, WorkCover and Transport Accident Commission, Minister for Water, Minister for Tourism and Major Events

Queensland

  • The Hon Cameron Dick MP, Attorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations.

Western Australia

  • The Hon Troy Buswell MLA, Treasurer, Minister of Commerce, Science and Innovation, Housing and Works 

South Australia

  • The Hon Paul Caica MP, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Forests, Minister for Regional Development

Tasmania

WRMC Reports

The WRMC occasionally publishes reports and discussion papers on topics such as research projects, occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation, and the delivery of workplace relations inquiry and compliance services.

The WRMC released the first benchmarking report on 20 April 2000. The report is an important step towards improving the standard of delivery of Commonwealth and State workplace relations inquiry and compliance services.

The WRMC released the second benchmarking report in January 2001. The WRMC released the third benchmarking report in June 2002.

Labour Market Research Programme

The WRMC agreed at its meeting of 30 May 1997 to institute a programme of labour market research to promote constructive, continuing debate about workplace reform. A panel of researchers was established to undertake projects on the Council's behalf.
