Discussion Papers and Consultation Sessions

In May 2008 the Australian Government released two discussion papers as part of the move to a new employment services system, to be launched on 1 July 2009.

The first discussion paper is:

  • The Future of Employment Services in Australia (PDF 383KB) (RTF 1.14MB)
This discussion paper proposes a simpler and more effective employment services system for Australia.

The second discussion paper is:

  • Increasing Indigenous Economic Opportunity – A discussion paper on the future of the CDEP and Indigenous Employment Programs (PDF 368KB) (RTF 106KB)
The Australian Government has committed to reforming the Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) program and Indigenous Employment Program as part of a broader Indigenous Economic Development Strategy. This discussion paper sought suggestions on what is currently working as well as fresh and innovative ideas for reforms to Indigenous employment services.

Consultations

A series of public consultation sessions on both of the discussion papers were conducted nationally from 19 May 2008. Each session consisted of two parts, one for each discussion paper. The PowerPoint presentation The Future of Employment Services in Australia (PDF 403KB)  was shown at each consultation session.

The sessions provided the opportunity to learn more about the proposed reforms and to provide feedback to inform further development of programs and services.

Questions and feedback were invited on both discussion papers.

The closing date for submissions on the Increasing Indigenous Economic Opportunity – A discussion paper on the future of the CDEP and Indigenous Employment Programs was midnight 20 June 2008. For further information please see www.indigenous.gov.au.
