Central Coast

  1. The industry that is expected to be the most important one in two to five years:
    • The agricultural industry is the most important industry in Central Coast and is likely to remain so even if the industry changes its focus and moves to more value-added agribusinesses

  2. Industries with extended growth potential (industries which employ small numbers, but are expected to expand in 2-5 years):
    • Tourism
    • Aged care
    • Agri-tourism
    • Agricultural cluster industries – Industries that service both the agricultural sector and the mining sector

  3. Industries with limited growth potential (industries which employ large numbers, but are expected to diminish in 2-5 years):
    • Simplot remains a concern

  4. Current major employers in your local area:
    • Simplot
    • Van Ek Contracting
    • Harvest Moon
    • Perfecta Produce
    • Ron Gee Enterprises
    • Mader International
    • Botanical Resources
    • Eliza Purton Home for the Aged

  5. Events which may affect the future shape of the local area economy:
    • Agri-tourism
    • Climate change, especially global warming may have an important effect on local agricultural businesses
    • West Coast mining growth could also result in the take-up of more residential development. Central Coast is still regarded as a prime residential area because of its centrality in the North West

  6. Opportunities which exist in the local area which could encourage the establishment of new businesses:
    • Sound infrastructure with the capacity for growth
      Availability of water
    • Central location

    • Health professionals
    • Engineers
