Labour Economics Office - Western Australia
Role
The role of the Western Australian Labour Economics Office is to monitor, research and analyse the Western Australian labour market.
Functions
- Research and analyse occupational trends with particular focus on skilled occupations which may be in shortage.
- Analyse regional economic and labour market conditions.
- Provide ad hoc labour market information to a range of clients in DEWR, and the Job Network.
- Undertake the monthly Skilled Vacancy Count.
- Provide advice to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) on selected employer-sponsored migration applications.

The Labour Market Summary (LMS) Report provides a summary of the latest labour force statistics provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, generally on the second Thursday of the month.

The LMS is sometimes accompanied by a feature article. Feature articles cover a range of labour market topics, including occupational information, industry data and profiles of specific groups in the community such as youth.
